The Longer Game — retail reimagined
It’s Not Ready Yet Is Just Fear in a Fancy Hat

It’s not ready yet is just fear in a nicer outfit.

Stop stalling. Start launching.

If you are still waiting for the right time to launch that idea, product, or feature, you are not being strategic. You are scared, and you are dressing that fear up as professionalism.

Hamish McKay called it out on this episode of The Longer Game. His company, Order Editing, ran for over a year without a single case study. Not because they lacked happy clients, but because he was nervous to ask.

Then he finally hit send on 20 emails. Fourteen people said yes.

That is it. That is the story. No secret tactics. No magic template. Just the willingness to take a risk, to hear no, and to ask anyway.

Progress comes from courage, not from waiting to feel confident. Sometimes the leap of faith is just hitting send.

What are you waiting for?

Here are the greatest hits from people not launching:

  • “The product’s not perfect yet.”

  • “We need better packaging before we pitch retail.”

  • “The site needs more optimization.”

  • “Let’s finish the rebrand first.”

  • “We’re still building the deck.”

Translation: I am afraid people will reject me.

Here is the reality: no one cares as much as you do. Most people are not even paying attention. So if you flop, no one is watching. And if you succeed, even slightly, suddenly they all are.

That is how it works.

Launch scrappy. Learn fast.

You do not need a full rollout plan. You need a test.

  • Instead of a new product line, start with one SKU.

  • Instead of a national retail push, go to one store.

  • Instead of a full influencer strategy, send out 5 DMs.

Launch small. Watch what happens. Improve from there.

That is lean, and it is what smart brands do. You want product-market fit? You will not find it on a Google Doc.

A note for Amazon brands.

Amazon already gives you the perfect MVP framework. You can list quickly, gather real buyer feedback, and iterate without a full DTC relaunch.

If you are not using that ecosystem to launch faster, you are wasting its best feature.

MVP does not stand for Most Valuable Pitch deck. It means Minimum Viable Product, so act like it.

Launch the thing. Ugly, imperfect, probably half-baked. Then fix it, iterate, improve. Stop waiting. You don’t need more polish, you need to take the shot.
